There are special security features in the Pakistani passport that are intended to prevent unauthorized modifications and forgeries, as well as to minimize human trafficking. On an MRP passport, there is a photo in the barcode and personal information is also printed digitally.
For Pakistani travelers whose passports have expired or will expire within the next 12 months, the government has made an official online portal available. This article explains the process of renewing a Pakistan passport, including its fees, requirements, necessary documents, and processing time.
The requirements are as follows:
- Documents supporting.
- A photograph of up to 5MB can be uploaded. Photographs must follow the tutorial
- Form for fingerprinting. The fingerprint tutorial must be followed
- For online payments, you’ll need a valid credit card
What are the required documents?
For the renewal of your passport, the following documents are required.
General applicants
- A color scanned copy of both sides of a valid CNIC or NICOP or Smart CNIC or NICOP
- A color scan of the first two pages of an existing passport along with a random page selected by the system.
- Scan of a valid visa, iqama, residency permit, asylum card, or passport of another nationality in color
Minors under the age of 18
- A color scan of a valid NICOP card (both sides) or a computerized B-Form or Family Registration Certificate
- Printed copies of the parents’ valid national identification cards in color (both sides)
- In case of separation, a court order or guardianship certificate is required
- Attestation form for minor scanned in color
- A scanned copy of the mother’s or father’s death certificate, if either has passed away
- Scan of valid visa/iqama/residence permit/asylum card/passport of another nationality in color
Government employees
- A color scanned copy of both sides of a valid CNIC or NICOP or Smart CNIC or NICOP
- In the case of government officers/officials, military officers or semi-government/autonomous bodies/corporations, an applicant must provide a No-Objection Certificate (NOC). The NOC will be subject to confirmation or verification by the relevant department
- A color scan of the first two pages of an existing passport along with a random page selected by the system.
- Scanned color copy of valid visa/iqama/residence permit/asylum card/passport of another nationality
How to renew my passport online?
Once you have gathered all the required documents, you can begin your online passport renewal application. The registration code will be sent to you by SMS and email if you are registering from within Pakistan. In the case of applications from outside Pakistan, the required codes will only be emailed to the applicant.
After completing your registration, simply follow the steps below:
- Provide the required details when renewing your passport
- Your passport will be delivered to the address you provide
- Credit or debit cards can be used to pay the fee
- Fill out the required personal information
- Please provide your current and permanent addresses
- Your photograph can be uploaded here
- The supporting documents should be uploaded
- Fill out the form, register the four fingerprints required by the system, and submit it
- Scan in 600 DPI, JPEG/JPG, and grayscale. Upload the form after scanning it
- Submit the application after reviewing the information you provided and signing the declaration
It may take up to 15 minutes for the entire application process to be completed once all the required requirements have been assembled.
You will receive your passport via DHL once your application has been completed. Delivery time depends on the address you provided.
Please note that the government portal does not offer services for the following categories:
New passport. The issuance of the first Machine Readable Passport (MRP).
Modification. Applicants who wish to make changes to their existing Machine Readable Passport (MRP).
Reprint exhaust. Applicants who need a new passport because they frequently travel and their pages are running out.
Lost passport. There are no services available for lost or stolen passports on the online portal. To obtain MRP-related services, please visit your nearest Pakistan Embassy/High Commission/Consulate General.
What is the fee of the passport renewal application?
There are various types and categories of passport renewal fees. An ‘normal’ category passport renewal costs Rs 3,000, exclusive of service charges and applicable taxes, for a 5 year, 36-page passport. Similarly, you will have to pay Rs 5,000 for an urgent passport, which is exclusive of service charges and taxes.
The fees range from Rs 5,500 to Rs 20,500 based on the type of passport and category. The delivery fees to your provided address are also excluded.
